We get asked quite often why someone should trust us and our reviews so
we compiled some of the reasons we've given people over the years on
one page. I'll be the first to tell you that we aren't perfect, and
our reviews aren't perfect, but we think our process is second to
none in our industry.
By their nature reviews are subjective, but we've created a process
that makes objective evaluations a lot easier, and since we score
all Web Hosts the same way our results are consistent. You may
disagree with us. That is fine with me. If you find something our
review process overlooked, let me know and we will look into it.
Each review allows you to comment on it, as well as to fill out your
own review of the Web Host. I encourage you to do so.
Thanks,
Ron Dunlap, Managing Editor

Our Reputation:
Our reputation for independence, objectivity and fairness is well known in the Web
Hosting industry for good reason. We began reviewing Web Hosting
services in the mid-nineties and have never stopped. Armed with
effective testing criteria and standards built from experience and the
help of an independent California-based testing lab, our reviews are
fair and objective. Check out our
review criteria online.

Our Independent Review Panel
The members of our Independent Review Panel are not members of our
staff, but they are valuable to our Web Host Buyer's Guide reviews. Each
member is knowledgeable and experienced. To learn a bit more about them,

We Purchase the
Web Hosting Services We Review
The best way to review Web Host services is
by using them and comparing them to other Web Host services that have
been similarly tested with the same testing criteria. It is very
expensive, but it is what we do.
We Review Web Hosts AND Web Host Directories
That's right, we review not only Web Hosts and their services, but we
also review Web Host directories. There are some very very good Web Host
finder sites online and we have no problem directing you to them in
order to help you find your next Web Hosting services.
Our Reader's Reviews and Opinions are Crucial to our Review
Process
We listen and learn from our many thousands of readers. Their opinions
matter, and we make sure we consult our Reader Reviews as well as our emails (which we categorize by Hosting
company and community) to get input from others about the Host. We also
contact those readers (that have given us that permission) about their
experiences, to gather as much information as we can.
Our Reviews Never Use Ad Tracking Links
back To The Company We Review
Check it out. You will never see an ad tracking link on any of our
reviews. Many sites do. They do that because they want to pick up the
affiliate sales from the visitors that click on the review tracking URL
link to the Web Host. We don't use fancy JavaScript to hide the tracking
URL either. We just use a plain and simple URL back to the home
page of the company we review. Maybe our competition thinks we're crazy
but that's fine with us.
We NEVER accept any money for our Ratings or Review Scores
We have a good reputation that we have earned over the years. Our
reputation cannot be bought or sold, and we have no intention of ruining
our reputation over money. We HAVE NEVER, and WILL NEVER, accept any money or
accept special favors from a Web Host in return for a better review
score or rating. That is something you can be sure of.
There are some nice review based sites online that do not accept any
form of money for their reviews. However, the vast majority of the "top
10" review sites you see in the search engines are really Counterfeit Rating sites
(see below). That is, they appear to be genuine, but their lists of Web
Hosts are based on the revenue they receive from the Web Hosts. Hence, Counterfeit Review and Rating sites
cannot be trusted to give you an objective or fair list of the best Web
Host companies. The Hosts they rate may actually be great Web Hosts, but
that doesn't mean the Counterfeit Rating Site rated them with any
objectivity.
Why We Have Advertising
Like any business, we have bills to pay. Because of that we accept
advertising on our Web sites. Those that might complain that since we
accept advertising we must be biased conveniently overlook other
companies that review products and services such as PC Magazine, Car And
Driver, Motor Trends, and a long long list of others. Accepting
advertisers does not mean that we accept money for better review scores.
As we stated above, we HAVE NEVER, and WILL NEVER, accept any money or
accept special favors from a Web Host in return for a better review
score or rating. That is something you can be sure of. However, if a Web
Host, or other company wants to advertise on our site because our
visitors meet their target audience, then we will sell them space on our
site to reach our readers. That is fair.
By the way, we display the status of each Web Host we review as to
whether they were an advertiser with us or not when the review was
conducted.
About Counterfeit Rating sites
A counterfeit is an imitation that is made usually with the
intent to deceptively represent its content or origins. In the Web
Hosting industry, a Counterfeit Rating site is one that
receives money or other form of compensation from a Web Host in return
for a favorable rating for that Host. To claim a "Top 10" list of Web
Hosts when in fact the listing is based merely on the amount of money
paid is lie. It is no different than a jewelry company claiming that its
diamonds are real when in fact they are fake diamonds. They are not real. Counterfeit Rating sites
cannot be trusted to give you an objective or fair list of the best Web
Host companies.
As previously mentioned, the fact that the Counterfeit Rating site provides a fake "Top 10" list doesn't necessarily mean the
Web Hosts they list are bad. However, we see no reason why anyone should
trust and of these counterfeit sites or their counterfeit lists. |
