The Host Finders
The Host Finders - The Pros and Cons
We’ve cataloged well over a hundred Web sites that
we call "Host Finders." These are web sites that help you find Web
Hosting services. Most of them offer several databases and search engines to
help you locate specific types Web Host services and plans you require. But not
everybody likes the Host Finder sites and many have strong objections to them.
Because we promote many of the services in the Host Finder side of our industry,
we want to offer our point of view on the Host Finders based on years of working in this industry.
In general, the Host Finder sites make it easier to find Web Host plans, and several provide more other related resources such as articles and interviews. Host Finder sites are a great service to our industry and we recognize them and their efforts here.
We Recommend The Host Finders!
Because of the much-needed services Host Finders provide we highly recommend them to you. We offer a comprehensive Host Finder list for that purpose. We also include them in our review process with our comments and HostFactor Rating values.

Beware The Counterfeit Rating Site!
A counterfeit is an imitation that is made usually with the intent to deceptively represent its content or origins. In the Web Hosting industry, a Counterfeit Rating site is one that receives money or other form of compensation from a Web Host in return for a favorable rating for that Host. To claim a "Top 10" list of Web Hosts when in fact the listing is based merely on the amount of money paid is lie. It is no different than a jewelry company claiming that its diamonds are real when in fact they are fake diamonds. They are not real. Counterfeit Rating sites cannot be trusted to give you an objective or fair list of the best Web Host companies.

Not All Host Finder Sites are Alike
If you visit the Host Finder sites listed here, you’ll quickly notice that not all Host Finder sites are alike. Some look hastily thrown together. Some look like copies of existing Host Finder sites. And others, well, we don’t know what the objective might have been for a handful of others.
In most cases we have found that the complainers have been burned in the past by Web Hosts who advertise with a Host Finder. Perhaps they had an account that was terminated by the Host or maybe the Host itself had technical problems that hurt the Web Developer's business. In these cases we sympathize as we have had similar problems ourselves. Anyone who has been in the business has had similar problems. We take these complaints under advisement and determine the legitimacy of each complaint on a case-by-case basis.
Host Finders and Advertising
Many Host Finder sites display advertising to help them pay for their expenses. Web Hosts know that a popular Host Finder site is one of the best places to advertise because that’s where Developers go to find Hosting information. But are the anti-Host Finder developers right? Does the advertising on these sites make the Host Finder less acceptable?
As a whole, we don't think so, but we understand the concern. It would be easy to give in to advertising money and give awards based on which company paid the most. But we believe to hold such a view towards all the Host Finder sites as some do is highly cynical. To hold such a point of view would presuppose that any source of information that accepts advertising money is suspect. That includes TV, Newspapers, Magazines, Radio, among others. Anything and everything is suspect. The developers in the newsgroups who make such blanket statements about all Host Finder sites being corrupt are the same type of people who create conspiracy theories out of thin air.
So, Are Host Finder Sites Trustworthy?
What about the Host Finder that accepts advertising money from a Hosting company the developer doesn’t like? This is another argument we see in the Discussion Groups. That is, the Host Finder cannot be trusted because it accepted ad money from Company A or Company B. They argue that in this case you should not even go to that Host Finder site. They are sell-outs. They are too commercial. Too corrupt. And the argument takes the all too familiar course that because on does it, ALL Host Finders are corrupt.
