Web Hosting

In reference to Host type, Web Host Magazine & Buyer's Guide classifies Hosts by their areas of expertise. We call these Host Communities. Currently, we recognize 5 major Host Communities: Cheap, Personal, Developer, Business, and Green.

Our reviews started with criteria designed to make evaluating services objective. One of the basis of this evaluation process is the categorization of like services. It would be difficult at best to determine the quality of one service using the standards of another. For instance, you wouldn't determine the value of a sports car in comparison to a mini-van. They were built for different activities. The same holds true in web hosting. We split Web Host services amount five major communities based on their features and levels of service.

Cheap Hosting

Today's low cost Web Host plans come with more disk space than an average desktop provides, and enough bandwidth to power all but the largest corporate Web sites. If you are looking to get a Web Host plan that packs a wallop at the lowest possible cost, a cheap hosting plan is for you.

Personal Hosting

Although personal web hosting also means low priced it doesn't mean lowered quality. The personal web host ensures each tool available is easy to use so the customer can spend more time working on what matters. One of the ways they do that is by providing a site creation tool (such as template web site creators) or a CMS.

Developer Hosting

Developers are not just looking for a platform to host their ideas on, developers also require tools to make their lives easier. Along with development kits, collaboration software, and programming support web hosts who foster a strong development community are key components for Developer web hosts.

Business Hosting

Businesses are finding that there are a variety of online opportunities, not just to sell products or get the word out, but to move their IT infrastructure or increase company productivity. Businesses need web hosting and there are many hosts who cater to these special needs.

Green Hosting

Today's data centers require large amounts of power to run and power means pollution. Green hosts make it their mission to reduce the amount of pollution produced by their operations. From using alternative energy sources to increasing power efficiency inside and out, green means getting more computing power out of less energy.
