Zeus Technology, the acknowledged leader in mission-critical web server infrastructure and solutions, today announced the release of Zeus Load Balancer 1.6, its next generation software load balancer and traffic manager.
Zeus Load Balancer 1.6 builds on the traffic management capabilities of previous versions of Zeus Load Balancer, and illustrates Zeus' continuing commitment to providing innovative, feature-rich, deploy-and-forget internet traffic management solutions. Recent releases of Zeus Load Balancer have focused on easing the deployment and administration of traffic management technology. These releases have seen updated user interfaces, improved diagnostics and revised documentation, as well as key new technology. Many of the new features in the 1.6 release were inspired by existing and new users of Zeus Load Balancer.
New features
New features in Zeus Load Balancer 1.5 and 1.6 include:
-
Automatic Session Persistence - makes it easy to specify which parts of a web site require 'session affinity', and uniquely allows multiple concurrent sessions for each user.
-
Port Mapping - providing more flexible options to tunnel through firewalls, masquerade services and deploy services on non-standard ports or machines.
-
FTP Load Balancing - Zeus Load Balancer contains an FTP proxy which completely conceals the back-end FTP servers, supporting both passive and active FTP modes.
-
Connection Draining - Zeus Load Balancer will stop sending new connections to a machine that is due to be taken down, but will ensure that existing sessions are preserved and can time out safely.
-
Connection Limiting - specifies limits on the number of connections that each hosted web site can sustain, so that the traffic to one popular web site cannot overload your servers or bandwidth.
"Load Balancing has traditionally been thought of as a hardware application." said John Paterson, Zeus CEO, "but with the increase in performance and lower price of standard server hardware, load balancing can now be delivered by software, allowing far greater functionality and more flexible deployment options than from a hard-wired, dedicated box."

About Zeus Load Balancer
Zeus Load Balancer is a powerful traffic management solution for providers of clustered network services such as web or mail.
Zeus Load Balancer improves the performance, reliability and scalability of TCP/IP based network services such as web, mail, news, ftp and database protocols, through a combination of content-aware traffic management, performance and health monitoring, and automatic fail-over in the event of hardware or software failure. Zeus Load Balancer can add traffic management intelligence to existing hardware load balancing solutions.
Request-aware traffic management enables performance optimization and resilience across a web server cluster, whether it contains Zeus Web Servers, Apache, IIS servers or any combination. Throughput and responsiveness is measurably improved by the traffic management capabilities and the high performance request handling architecture shared with the award-winning Zeus Web Server.
Zeus Load Balancer is available on most implementations of UNIX and Linux. Pricing for Zeus Load Balancer starts at $4,200 (£3,000 or EUR4800) for a single Zeus Load Balancer for two servers, with a pair of Zeus Load Balancers for unrestricted servers priced at $12,000 (£8,000 or EUR12800).
