Overview:
Started in 1997, Verio turned 10 years old earlier this year. They offer UNIX, Windows, E-Commerce, Virtual Private Servers (VPS), Reseller, and Enterprise Hosting solutions. For the purposes of this review, we will look solely at the Windows Hosting plans. Verio utilizes the Windows 2003 operating system with the IIS 6.0 framework for their Windows hosting plans.
When last we looked at Verio (October of 2005) our Independent Review Panel was impressed with their tons of feature and the price; was skeptical about the web space and transfer. If You can use all of it more power to you. Going back to Verio they are still offering great deals.
Features for Verio's Windows hosting solutions are generally geared toward businesses. For instance Urchin Web traffic, Verisign Payflow Pro, a set of SEO tools and wizards, Search Engine Submissions, and more than 100 small business guides come bundled with all of the Windows plans. Free Banner Impressions, Marketing tips, Ask an eMarketing Question, and a Meta Tag Generator are sample of the business features found in the highest tier plan.
Features common to the Windows platform include .NET Framework, ASP 3.0, ASP.NET, PHP, Perl, Windows Media Services, XML, JavaScript, and VB Script. Verio definitely gives their customers a lot of options for site development technologies. Our Independent Review Panel was also impressed with the pricing points of each Windows plan.
Support comes in the form of 24/7 e-mail, trouble ticket system, and phone support. Support response ran around the industry average across the board.
Verdict:
Verio has a lot of things to offer Web developers especially Web developers who are looking to build a business portal. Though the amount of Web space and Monthly Data Transfer seem ridiculously high, Verio still operates a smooth running ship.
